Looking forward to the new domestic season there are a number of bets that look appealing, but I thought I’d get the first one out there today to add to the portfolio.
Selection: Derby County to finish top half in Championship
Odds: 1.61 BetVictor
Stake: 2 points
I’m really not sure why Derby have been price like this for a top half finish. Over the last few seasons they have finished:
They haven’t lost any of their major players and Lampard has used his contacts to sign a couple of loanees. One looks to be quite a signing!
Chelsea youngster Mason Mount was on loan last season to Vitesse, where he played 32 games, scoring 14 with 9 assists. He looks the real deal.
Their squad looks good with players like Huddlestone, Vydra, Ledley, Curtis Davies and a mix of younger players like Tom Lawrence.
They are being heavily linked with players like Jack Marriott from Peterborough and Waghorn from Ipswich, who was directly involved in more Championship goals than any other player last season.
They have struggled to get over the line in recent seasons and either failed to hold onto the top 6 or failed in the playoff semi dinal. I’m not convinced by Rowett. He has good experience but is a little negative which I don’t think suits the squad at Derby and I wasn’t surprised to see them fail last season, but even with his limitations they still managed a top 6 finish and held their own in the semi final against eventual winners Fulham. Lampard might do slightly worse in his first season in management but bottom half??
Lampard might be a novice manager, but I think he might inspire the players and I can’t see them finishing 13th or below.
2 points for me here.
